Teeth Whitening

A quick, safe way to refresh and transform your smile for a healthy and youthful appearance

Studies show that our smile is one of the most noticed and remembered features when we meet someone new.

In this era of social media and constant celebrity selfies, it’s easy to understand why! Luckily, modern dentistry means that a bright and confident smile is now an accessible and affordable luxury for everyone.

With easy, convenient and comfortable whitening treatment available, don’t feel the need to hide your teeth – smile confidently with brighter teeth you can be proud of! Treatment is pain-free, quick and results can be seen from the first application.

Why do our teeth discolour?

Over time, teeth naturally start to discolour as part of the ageing process – and it happens to everyone. There are a number of reasons for this, including consuming dark food and drink items such as coffee, tea, red wine and berries and smoking. The darkening of the teeth can also be caused by damage to a tooth or the long-term use of certain medications.

No matter how well you look after your teeth, or how thorough your cleaning routine, it is impossible to stop this colour change of your teeth as stains build on the inside as well as the outside of the teeth.

Powerful whitening for effective results

There are two types of whitening – in-surgery treatment and home whitening kits. Chairside whitening systems are generally more powerful and will give more intense and noticeable results in a quicker time. However, some patients prefer the convenience and comfort of home whitening, where bleaching gel is worn in a custom-made mouth tray for 30-60 minute periods over several weeks.

Whitening systems we offer at Aesthetique

Here at Aesthetique, we offer two different teeth whitening systems; the first is our at-home whitening kit called Pola Day. This package involves taking impressions, making in-house bleaching trays and we will demonstrate and instruct you on how to use the whitening syringes at home. The course lasts approximately 2 weeks and gives a lovely, natural white result.

Our second whitening system is a more comprehensive package called Enlighten. For this package, you will first have a digital scan taken to create your whitening trays, you will then use a specialised toothpaste and an at-home whitening kit for 2 weeks. Following this, you will come into the practice for an in-surgery booster appointment which will round off your treatment. Enlighten whitening guarantees a B1 shade for all patients, and this is our brightest and whitest whitening system.

Frequently asked questions

  • Is teeth whitening safe?

Yes, when performed by a qualified dental health professional, teeth whitening is perfectly safe. You should avoid the use of home kits which can be bought easily online and never have your teeth whitened in beauty salons or hairdressing salons. These treatments are unregulated and could result in long term damage to your teeth and gums.

  • Is teeth whitening suitable for me?

Teeth whitening is suitable for the majority of patients. It is normally possible to remove stains from most teeth, even those that are considered dead due to root damage. Teeth with particularly bad staining may not respond to treatment, or may require several doses.

  • Can crowns or bridges be whitened?

Prosthetic devices such as crowns, fillings, dentures and bridges can’t be whitened. However, they can be replaced to match your new whiter teeth at an additional charge.

  • Is teeth whitening painful?

Treatment should be completely pain-free, although you may notice a slight increase in sensitivity of your teeth and gums, which should improve once treatment is finished.

  • Can teeth whitening damage my teeth?

No, the treatment will not damage your tooth enamel, but may cause temporary tooth sensitivity. This will go away on its own once treatment is complete.

  • Is whitening treatment permanent?

Teeth whitening is not permanent, and the length of your results will depend on each individual case. Typically, whitening can last anything from a few months up to 3 years.
