Stain Removal

A highly effective solution for a stain free smile

Normal dental scaling removes tartar and plaque, but can be a little too abrasive when used to remove heavy stains.

Air polishing is a great alternative to help patients achieve a beautiful stain-free smile.

Teeth can become stained from a variety of sources, including:

  • Smoking
  • Tea & coffee
  • Red wine
  • Some mouthwashes

What is air polishing?

Air polishing involves using a steady stream of pressurised bicarbonate of soda combined with stain removing particles and water to remove surface stains. We then follow this with a special polish, using a diamond-based polishing paste, to give those teeth an extra special shine.

Air polishing is pain-free, comfortable and non-invasive, and is achievable in a single visit to the practice. It is a very popular treatment with patients keen on revitalising their smiles and getting some of their sparkle back.

Icon – White Spot Treatment

Icon is a revolutionary treatment that can improve the appearance of white spots or mottling on teeth without the need for drilling.

What causes white spots?

White spots are very common and can be caused by a range of factors, including:

Fluorosis – this occurs when there is a very high fluoride intake when the adult teeth are developing.

Decalcification – this is the loss of minerals from the enamel, and can occur after orthodontic treatment.

How can white spots be treated?

Historically, the only way to treat white spots on teeth was to cover them up with composite bonding or veneers. These treatments require the removal of healthy tooth material and are not favoured by modern dentists.

At Aesthetique Dental, we offer Icon treatment to restore the natural colour of your tooth. The minimally invasive technique uses a process of infiltration to blend the white spots in with the rest of the tooth.

Frequently asked questions

  • Does air polishing whiten teeth?

Air polishing is not a whitening treatment, but can significantly improve the brightness of your teeth, resulting in a sparkling smile. Each individual case produces different results, and some teeth will respond better to the air polishing treatment. Your dentist will be able to advise you on the best option for your teeth.

  • Is air polishing bad for teeth?

No, when administered correctly by dental professionals the treatment process is completely safe and won’t affect the structure of your teeth at all.

  • Does air polishing hurt?

No, air polishing is a fairly gentle treatment. Many patients find that it is a more pleasant experience than the traditional scale and polish that is a staple of most hygiene appointments. Air polishing is also a preferable option for those patients who suffer from sensitive teeth.
